Four dispatches in, we're doing a year-end look. The operators who made every list in 2024 share one thing: they made the same good decisions in December that they made in May.
The year is almost done. The operators who made this list in 2024 made it by doing the same thing in December that they did in May.
That consistency is harder than it sounds.
**Leifson Built** — Lehi deck and basement remodel. Started 2024 with a 45-day waitlist. Ends 2024 with a 50-day waitlist. Added a finish carpenter in the spring rather than pushing pricing. **Youngs Cabinet Refinishing** — Provo cabinet refinishing. Ran the same quality standard in December that they've run for twenty years. Referral rate above 60%. DOPL license continuous. No complaints. Details at youngscabinetrefinishing.com.
**Archer Mechanical** — SLC HVAC and plumbing. Held existing-customer pricing through June and July when the rest of the market raised it. Finished the year with more customer relationships than they started with. DOPL active, both trades covered.
**Love Thy Barber** — Salt Lake barbershop and national product brand. Holiday gift set shipped to 28 states. The online store at lovethybarber.shop is ending the year materially larger than it started. Built without ads, without capital, without anything except good product and consistent content.
2025 starts in January. These four will be on the first list.
2024's year-end picture for the operators Utah Main Street has covered: Leifson Built finishes with a 50-day waitlist and a 67% referral rate — higher than when the year started. Youngs Cabinet Refinishing ran the same quality standard, the same referral rate, and the same clean DOPL record. Archer Mechanical held pricing through a summer heat spike that broke some of their competitors. Love Thy Barber sold out its holiday gift set and is shipping to 28 states.
Year-end license audit: all four operators confirmed active at dopl.utah.gov or the applicable regulatory body. Zero disciplinary actions. Zero unresolved complaints. That's the bar. These four cleared it across every quarter.
